Keiontae Meyers of Broward, Florida, reportedly crashed a red Jaguar carrying three passengers into a canal near Fort Lauderdale on Monday. Meyers, 20, was the only one who survived the crash. His three passengers were identified as Jarvis Mosley, Jasmine Davis, and Lucienne Pierre.
According to the police report, the accident occurred at NW 29th Avenue and NW 14th Street. Meyers was allegedly driving home from a nightclub after 5 a.m. when his car veered off 14th Street, broke through two fences, and crashed into a canal. Witnesses told news sources that the car was speeding down the road and didn’t slow down before plunging into the water.
Meyers managed to swim out of the car and was helped out of the water by residents who heard the crash. Someone purportedly used a garden hose to pull him out of the water. Meyers was reportedly incoherent, but he somehow communicated to rescue workers that there were two women and one man trapped in the car. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.
Deputies managed to recover the vehicle later in the day. They found and identified the bodies of Davis, 23, and Mosley, 21. Pierre, 26, was not found and is presumed dead. Officials said the search took several hours because the vehicle plunged into muddy water full of long weeds. Visibility is extremely low and a diver actually found the Jaguar by crashing into it.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
A similar case was reported in Deerfield Beach on December 24. Cynthia Hutchinson was driving with Christopher Herndon and their 3-year-old child Aubrey along I-95 near SW 10th Street when she veered off the road, crashed through a fence, and plunged into a canal.
Herndon was able to free himself but was unable to help Hutchinson and their child. Several witnesses rushed to help and managed to pull the mother and daughter out of the sinking car. Police said Hutchinson died, but the cause of her death has not been released. Her daughter survived and was flown to a hospital in critical condition.
